Have you ever wondered how a gaming device could turn out to be a new artistic tool? Discover the creative potential of this new tool here, at aBaCUS’ 12. The advent of Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect, with $150 a unit and 8 million sales in two months is instigating a revolution. A lot of people, scholars and researchers, suppose that we are beholding a new era, debatably the first time when computer vision technologies are having such a weighty sway on consumer electronics. The Kinect has been a grand piece of equipment for thinkers and hackers. It gives one, the prospect to interact with a computer by means of one’s gestures. During this workshop these methods will be dealt with, natural user interfaces will be fabricated and kinect-driven games will be explored.
The idea of this workshop is to recognize the scope and impact of the fast growing Kinect-based research activities, to discuss the major research troubles and opportunities and how we should synchronize efforts to guide the depth camera revolution. A few questions which keep haunting you now will find their answers here.

What is the potential for artists-developers?
What are the virtues and shortcomings of the technology?
What is already going on and how can I leap in the bandwagon?

We will try to answer all those questions – and more!
